Day 1 – Check in > looking for day tours in Ao Nang > dinner at E-san seafood
We took Bangkok Airways to Krabi (transit in Bangkok). The Hong Kong to Bangkok leg was operated by Cathay Pacific. All passengers (economy class) can enjoy the complimentary use of their lounge during transit. The lounge provides free snacks, drinks & wifi. It was a pleasant experience and will definitely consider to fly with Bangkok Airways in future.
The Bangkok Airways lounge is comfortable.
We arrived Krabi airport at around 4pm. It will take less than an hour to get to Ao Nang. Taxi cost about 600Baht & the shuttle bus cost 150Baht per head from airport.
We were staying at Mercure in Ao Nang for 4 nights before going to Railay Beach. I chose this hotel mainly based on the reviews and rankings from tripadvisor & it is from Accor group. The hotel is located at the very end of Moo 3, I would say the location is not perfect. It’s definintely more quiet than the other hotels. It seems that Red Ginger or Centara Anda Dhevi would be a better choice in the same location. The L Resort is located opposite to Ao Nang beach and it is in the heart of the super touristy location with all those local shops for souvenirs.
Hotel provides free shuttle to Ao Nang center but the schedule is a bit odd. We never had a chance to take the shuttle during our stay. Most people would spend full day on island and won’t be back until 4-5pm and it would be a little too late to get out of the hotel at 8pm.

We quickly went to the nearby travel agent to look for day tours for the next few days. We decided to join Phi Phi Island day tour, Tiger Cave & Emerald Pool tour and the 4 Island tour. We booked the tour from the travel agent next to E-San seafood. We booked the 3 tours for 3200Baht after we bargained. (Later we found out there are travel agents near the seafood street offer tour in a bigger discount).
Some local street food about 15 mins walk from the hotel
After we sort out the tour, we walked a bit at the Ao Nang market & walk near the Ao Nang beach to catch the sunset. We went to E-san Seafood for dinner later that night. This restaurant is well known for food with very reasonable price.
We just ordered some simple dishes Tom Yum Soup, Green Curry with chicken, stir fried morning glory & clams. It took us a long while to wait for the food and the restaurant is very warm (no air conditioning & the fan is not strong enough) The food was ok and it cost about 600Baht.
We had an early night and ready for the day tour early in the morning. The hotel lobby looks nice at night.
