It was the last day of my trip and I felt a craving for a final bowl of ramen before leaving Kyushu. I decided to go to Ichiran 一蘭, a famous ramen restaurant chain, for my reman. I went to their flagship restaurant in Nakasu. You won’t miss this building as it has the famous huge ichiran sign all over it.
The ichiran yatai 一蘭屋台 is located on the ground floor and the normal ramen area was located on the 2/F. Like all the other ichiran shop, you will need to buy the ticket from the machine before getting a seat at the ramen cubical. There are small partitions between the seats and it is a perfect place for solo diner, not so great for a first date though.
An order form will be put on your table and you can choose how strong you want your soup flavour and tenderness of the noodle. The ramen is customized to your preference. I found the translated order sheet from this website which save us non-Japanese speakers a lot of trouble.
I forgot to add an extra egg, which is usually my go to add on, and so my ramen looks a bit plain. Nevertheless, I finished the ramen within minutes. The ramen quality is standardized in Ichiran. I’ve tried ichiran in Tokyo and in Hong Kong before and the soup base tastes exactly the same. If I could choose another place for my last ramen in Kyushu, I would choose a smaller ramen shop with no overseas branches.
You can buy some ichiran souvenirs in this building. Some products are limited edition for Fukuoka region only.

I walked pass my favourite sushi chain restaurant Sushi Zanmai and it still not open yet.
We walked to Hakata station for souvenir shopping after our ramen breakfast. I love the strawberry products and was attracted by the “Fukuoka limited edition” product.
This strawberry snack looks good but the taste is so-so.
That chocolate mochi is quite good.
Soon after our souvenir shopping, we were about to get back to hotel to pick up our luggage. We walked pass another sushi zanmai shop and decided to have some sushi before going to airport. I know we sound a bit crazy for all the non stop eating but we wanted to take full advantage of the great Japanese food before leaving Japan. Japanese food is more expensive in Hong Kong and the quality is not as good.
The sushi was shared between 3 adults. The fatty tuna and the sea urchin sushi are a lot cheaper than Hong Kong.
My friend insisted on ordering this shellfish as he said it is a lot more expensive to order in Hong Kong.
It was the perfect ending to our food mission trip in Fukuoka.

Finally, we arrived at the airport and sadly we were ready for our flight back to Hong Kong. Like all typical Asian tourists, we grabbed our last chance to do souvenir shoppings in the airport. We always buy a lot more than we actually need.
This strawberry chocolate is quite yummy. Great souvenirs.
I bought too many kitkats last time I went to Toyko. I decided not to buy any this time.
The best way to burn our remaining time and money is to have another meal before getting on the flight. I’m not a fan of inflight meals and would be totally fine to skip it.
Japanese whiskey is extremely popular now but I don’t like the taste of it. It’s good that I can save this 20,000yen and spend on something else.
I managed to spend all my Japanese coins on that green tea & rice ball. It was a great experience to visit the less popular destination Fukuoka (most people go to Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto, Okinawa, Hokkaido) and it is definitely a hidden gem. I’ll see you soon Japan!
