Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel 上海明捷万丽酒店
It is a business hotel located in the Putuo area. I stayed there simply because it was booked by my work. The room rate is quite reasonable and it is right next to the metro station. There isn’t many touristy things you can do in the Putuo district though. I am surprised that it has quite a high ranking from tripadvisor (#28 out of 4000 hotels in Shanghai).
The average room rate is US$125 per night excluding breakfast. It falls into the mid-range category for hotels in Shanghai. After all it is a hotel property under Marriott group and the quality of service is guaranteed.
It is right next to the Langao Road Metro station (line 7 orange line). It will take around 30 mins by Metro to get to the downtown Puxi area (People’s Square, Nanjing Road). I rarely take the metro in Shanghai as the air conditioning in the train is quite weak and you need to walk a long way when changing to a different metro line. Getting around in Puxi with a taxi won’t cost you more than RMB40. If you want to have a more comfortable ride, get your uber. There is also a supermarket near the hotel.

I was given a welcome drink and a wet towel upon check-in. This is very refreshing after my flight. I was allocated to a corner room and it is quite spacious. The average deluxe room size is about 35 sq. meters. It has the typical hotel chain room decoration. I have no complaints about my room but personally I prefer the hipper designs of a boutique hotel.
The bathroom is very spacious with shower & bath tub.
All amenities are provided in the hotel.
There is a proper work desk that allows me to set up my temporary work station.
The closet is very spacious as well.
There is a 24-hour fitness center and an indoor swimming pool in the hotel. I took a visit of the pool and it looks nice. However, all swimmers require you to wear a swimming cap to get into the pool. If you don’t have one, they will make you buy it. I decided to skip as I don’t want to spend money buying the cap for the swimming pool that I would just visit once.
There is a good variety of food selection at the breakfast buffet. It has everything you need for breakfast – pastry, yogurt, fruit, egg station and a noodle station.
It was a pleasant stay overall. Service and the room decor is consistent with the Marriott brand. It is definitely a safe choice and you can’t go wrong with it.
